Then and now

This week's Memory Monday is a "Then & Now" look at Westwood Heath Road. The 1960s image of the road was kindly shared by Les Parsons a little while ago. History Group member, Ian Harrop, has been out and about taking photos in the area, so thanks to Ian for the present-day photograph.

As we all know, the road is extremely busy at peak times with cars at a standstill. However, even back in the 50s and 60s, the road was not as quiet as we might perhaps imagine. As Coventry was an important centre for motor car manufacture, Westwood Heath Road was a test route for some new cars. The industry provided employment for many local people, who could take advantage of heavily discounted car purchase. This resulted in increased traffic on the roads in and around Coventry.

We are looking for lots more old photos, so please do get in touch if you happen to have any that you would be happy to share with us.
