Lord Leigh's Buildings

MEMORY MONDAY

Happy New Year from all of us in the Westwood Heath History Group!

Today we take a look at the old properties in Westwood Heath built by Lord Leigh of Stoneleigh Abbey in the last half of the 19th century.

They all bear a crest with a curlicue insignia. As far as I am aware, this was not a part of the family coat of arms so I am assuming it was designed for the houses he built in the area. If anyone knows more about this, please do get in touch as I have been able to discover very little so far.

The photos show the buildings today – you might know of others, or indeed live in one of these – if so, please leave a comment!

Westwood Heath History Group is always interested to hear your recollections, observations, comments and questions relating to the area and its associated ancient hamlets of Tile Hill, Canley and Fletchamstead. Old photos of the area would also be welcomed. If you would like to get in touch, please leave a comment or email:-

Cottages between St John's Church and Featherbed Lane.

The Headmaster's House beside the Greek Orthodox Church (formerly Westwood School). This was originally a semi-detached property. At one time, the headmaster and family occupied one cottage, the gamekeeper the other.

Houses at the top of Red Lane, Burton Green. I think this is the only one in Burton Green.

Cottages on Westwood Heath Road.
